One of the main reasons for sous-vide cooking is that in most cases it is extremely tolerant to timing. It is hard to overcook most meats. But it is not the case with fish, poultry or eggs; and it is relatively easy to undercook anything. There are quite a few tables around which give times for pasteurization, or for heating this or that food from one temperature to another.

We collected all this information from books and Internet (and we plan to add some more which we will measure with our Raspberry Pi system and calculate ourselves). The app will present all of it in the simplest (or not) form.

Typical question might be something like: "I have the slabs of tenderloin steak 1.75" thick, and Sous-vide Supreme water bath filled to the level half-way between "Fill" and "Max" at room temperature (75°F). I have guests at 8pm, and it takes me 10 minutes to brown and plate. I want my steaks medium-rare, and one of my guests is expecting a baby, so I'd rather have my meats pasteurized. When the latest should I start?"

The App will be able to give you the start time and temperature setting, and after you click "Start timer" it will notify you when it is safe to put your meats in the water bath, and when it is safe to take it out.

Of course, you will have your preferences saved (the Sous-vide set-up, pot size, English or Metric units, etc.), so you would need to do just a few selections and you there you go. I am also planning some additional timers, for example, for cook-and-chill scenario.

In case of the new Anova device, it will also send all the needed Bluetooth commands. We are also considering additional Anova-specific functions like delayed start, scheduling, and remote control.

We plan to release a version of this App without Anova-specific functionality first, and add Anova functions as soon as I get the SDK and prototype from Anova

This survey is to measure an interest in such an app (Anova will provide a simple free App in any case), as well as to collect requirements.
